A Smoking Gun Incriminates the Judge Who
Ruled Against Don Siegelman
By David Fiderer of Huffington Post
Before commencing deliberations, jury foreman Sam Hendrix began
each day with his fellow jurors by holding hands and saying a payer.
They prayed for the defendants, including former Governor Don
Siegelman, who had been indicted for bribery and government
corruption. "We didn't want to crucify people," Hendrix told the Auburn
Villager, "but we did want to send a message."

Panel to Vote on Rove Contempt Resolution
by Seth Stern of CQ Politics
The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote Wednesday on a
resolution to hold Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for failing to
appear to testify as directed by a subpoena.
Rove’s attorney cited executive privilege when the former top White
House adviser declined to appear at a July 10 Judiciary Committee
hearing.
....Rove denied any involvement in the matter in a July 22 letter to
Lamar Smith of Texas, the top Republican on the panel. Rove has
offered to submit to an off-the-record, untranscribed interview or
answer written questions about the Siegelman case, but not about the
broader issue of the politicization of the Justice Department. Conyers
has rejected that offer.

Petition calls for Rove to be held in contempt
Associated Press
Bush administration critics who want former White House adviser Karl
Rove held in contempt of Congress have showed up on Capitol Hill.
They hand-delivered a petition to a Democratic lawmaker containing
more than 127,000 signatures.
The signers want Rove held in contempt and jailed for defying a
Judiciary Committee subpoena....
Rove has denied any involvement in Justice Department activities and
submitted a written statement to the committee. The White House has
cited executive privilege in arguing that he and others who serve or
served in the administration should not testify.

Draining the Bush DOJ Swamp
Roger Shuler of Legal Schnauzer
....And what did the public wind up with as a result? In Alabama, we
have political hacks like Leura Canary in Montgomery and Alice Martin
in Birmingham.
Canary led the effort to get former Democratic Governor Don
Siegelman, and that case has become the "poster child" for political
prosecution by loyal Bushies.

Career Prosecutor Louis Franklin, assistant to Leura Canary, conducted a secret internal inquiry that appears to be more cover-up than investigation.
